Description: THE CZECH COLLECTION Autographed 4" x 6" 3 bar, double staved musical quotation September 26, 1990 by the Czech composer on a 4" x 6" card. Zbyněk Přecechtěl (1916 - 1996) was a Czech composer.From 1935–1940 the composer studied composition with Rudolf Karel at the Prague Conservatory and continued at the master school with Jaroslav Křička. He became an accompanist and conductor at the D41 Theater, led by Emil František Burian. Precechtel composed music for Nina Jirsíková's ballet The Tale of Dance for the D41 Theater. The plot of the ballet was an allegory of the 1941 Czechoslovakia under the Nazis where a fairy who teaches people to dance is sent to her death by an evil queen, with the moral that people, when learn to dance, continue to dance. The Nazis closed the theater after ther first performance. On March 12, 1941, the theater management including Emil Burian, Nina Jirsíková and Zbyněk Přecechtěl were arrested. The composer was eventually found the “least guilty” and was released.During the war, he worked as a pianist in a children's theater, later leaving for the Ostrava region, where he earned his living teaching music and composing. After the liberation, he returned to Burian's D46 Theater, worked in the Vít Nejedlý Army Art Ensemble and became the music director of Ostrava Radio.
