Description: We are offering "Yule Tide" - a Christmas publication (December 23rd, 1885, London). Edited by Alfred H. Miles, prolific Victorian era English poet, author, journalist and lecturer. (10 3/4" x 15 3/4") With 12 pages of Christmas stories and a Picture Gallery of 6 beautiful full-page single-sided plates, each of which the editor relates in some ways to the spirit of the Christmas season. The last 4 pages are filled with interesting advertisements for products of the day. The stories are: Christmas at Market Harley (written by Alfred H. Miles); The Diamond Robbery (told at the Red Lion by Hall Byrnes); The Christmas Anthem: a Choir Boy's Reminisces; A Romance of the Road: The Elopement! The Pursuit! The Capture! The Escape! and One Christmas Night, told at the Rectory by Mrs. Newman, author. The plates are: "The Heather Belle" by J. Craig; "Wild-Flowers" by J. Piot; "Feeding the Hungry" by Harriette Sutcliffe; "Going Ta-Ta" by Harriette Sutcliffe; "The Orphans" by S. E. Waller (Painting that hung in the Royal Gallery); "Undine and the Knight", after R. P. Staples' story of Undine, the lovely water nymph, pure as the water in which she dwelt, yet soulless.....,enamoured by the gallant knight who seeks her. The plates would make a beautiful presentation if matted & framed. **NOTE** there should be a "Presentation Plate" titled 'Never Mind' by Fred Morgan, which is missing. CONDITION: A newspaper-like publication, but heavier paper. The publication is, for the most part, Excellent for its age. The plates have some moisture staining in the borders, which could easily be covered with mats.
