Description: "Young Modi - Work #2 || Original || Matt Zedler Modern Masterwork Series || $400.00 Gallery List Notes on Work #1 || "Young Modi" || Our newsletter today discusses a sketch artwork entitled "Young Modi." This sketch-art was constructed on 9 x 12" archival paper using Graphite and Colored Pencil (Sketch only). Amedeo Modigliani is one of a handful of Modern Artists that I consider to have made a strong influence on my own figurative artworks and figurative artwork series. His groundbreaking style and construction of the human figure stands alone in the evolution of modern figurative art. Here is a snippet of information on the man and his life: Amedeo Clemente Modigliani was born the 12th of July 1884, and passed on the 24th of January 1920. Amedeo was an Italian Painter and Sculptor who worked mainly in France. He is known for portraits and nudes in a Modern style characterized by a surreal elongation of faces, necks, and figures. He was not received well during his lifetime, but later became a much sought-after artist. Modigliani spent his youth in Italy, where he studied the art of antiquity and the Renaissance. In 1906, he moved to Paris, where he came into contact with such artists as Pablo Picasso and Constantin Brancusi. Modigliani's oeuvre includes mainly paintings and drawings, but from 1909 to 1914 he devoted himself mostly to sculpture. His main subject was portraits and full figures, both in the images and in the sculptures. Modigliani had little success while alive, but after his death achieved great popularity. He died of tubercular meningitis at the young age of 35, - in Paris. (cc: wikipedia) In some of the many of hundreds of figurative sketches and paintings I have done so far, there is an influence to my work from Amedeo Modigliani. I have done a handful of sketches of Modigliani himself at various stages of his life through my own lens, this sketch shown today is but one of them.
