Description: The Empire Hotel is a boutique hotel located along West 63rd Street (at Broadway) in the New York City borough of Manhattan. In 1889, a seven-story building rose from the ground that would later become the The Empire Hotel. Herbert DePuy purchased this building in 1908. In 1922, DuPuy decided to tear the original structure down and build a 15-story building. In 1923, the Empire Hotel opened with its iconic “red neon signage” reading “Hotel Empire” erected on the rooftop. Room pricing was vastly in contrast to current numbers. Room rates in 1935: $2.00 per day with a room with a private toilet and lavatory for: $3.00 per day, for two people: $5.00. The Hotel Empire was untouched from 1922 until it received a refurbishment in 2007 by interior designers Goodman Charlton. I spent an hour looking for an image of the Old Hotel Empire but could not find one, but I think that the hotel on this card is not what it says it is. This building is 9 stories high, with a cupola and no red neon sign of the “Hotel Empire”. In any event, that is what the card, published by “Carter & Gut” says. Carter & Gut, were publishers in New York, of view-cards from 1902-1906. This card is a UDB and in good condition for its age. It shows just minor wear and has a mostly clean image which is clear. It is not posted or written on, and the reverse is clean. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated. If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment......
