The poster features 4 legends of Yankee baseball: On January 5, 1920, the New York Yankees announced that they had purchased the contract of Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox. The next morning's New York Times erroneously reported the sale price as $125,000. The actual purchase price was $100,000, payable in four annual installments of $25,000 at 6 percent interest. Henry Louis “Lou” Gehrig (June 19, 1903 – June 2, 1941), nicknamed “The Iron Horse” for his durability, played his entire 17-year baseball career (1923-1939) at first base for the New York Yankees. Known as the Yankee Clipper, Joe DiMaggio was the undisputed leader of New York Yankees teams that won nine World Series titles in his 13-year career that ran from 1936 to 1951, with three years lost to duty in World War II. Mickey Mantle played his first game for the Yankees in 1951, eventually replacing Joe DiMaggio in center field. During his 18-year career with the Yankees, the switch-hitting slugger hit 536 home runs and was voted the American League's Most Valuable Player three times (1956–57, 1962).
