I bought it new in June 1981 at a Yamaha directly-managed store. the SN was 104XX, and the Yamaha store owner at the time of purchase said that it was an early lot of the Custom Series in the 9000 series, and the build quality was quite meticulous. This was back then, so it could be sales talk...I think it is quite clean for its age because it has been used with great care. The plating is still 99% intact. Unfortunately, there is some roughness and slight peeling of the plating on the part where the left index finger hits (No. 4 valve casing), but no other roughness of the plating is visible. There is a ding on the top of the bell, about the size of a poke with a pen tip, but there is no other damage.As shown in the photos, the slide and all other moving parts are in working order. The piston is in good working order. The piston felt was replaced several years ago.
