Description: Late XIX Antique French Depouilly au Creusot Grandfather Clock Balloon Case with Royal portrait. These Morbier or Comtoise clocks from France near the Swiss border are sometimes called “Prayer Clock” because of the unusual striking. They will strike the hour and then one or two minutes later they will repeat the strike. It was said the purpose of this was to call to prayer and the second strike was to start the prayer. Clock dates from the mid to late 1800’s. Clock stands 7’5” tall and can be seen from the enclosed pictures there is no damage to the porcelain dial. Running and striking condition.
