The Regulation issue, machine embroidered patch was for the soldiers of the Blue Ridge Division. Men comprising the 80th Division came from Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. The 80th Division landed on Utah Beach in Normandy and fought at Argentan creating the Falaise Pocket trapping a large portion of the surviving German Normandy troops. The 80th fought through France into Central Europe. The 80th Division was a hard fighting outfit in both World Wars. The patch was removed from a uniform. It is in fair condition and is at least 79 years old. In World War II they landed at Utah Beach, fought at Argentan, and sprung the trap on the German Army in the Falaise Pocket. During the Battle of the Bulge they fought in Luxenberg and Bastogne. They crossed the Rhine in March 1945, entered Czechoslovakia and may have fired the last US shots on the Western Front.
