He used 43-28650 very rarely, scoring kills in at least four other P-38Js, although he managed to claim two Bf 109s in this fighter on 16 June 1944. Tovrea's most productive day came on 18 July 1944 when he downed two Fw 190s and a Bf 109, and damaged a further two Force-Wolfs, while flying P-38J-15 43-28734. His final score was eight confirmed, one probable and three damaged.
