The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Franz Dobler Franz was a Private in the Infantry and fell from grenade shrapnel on the Western Front on April 22, 1940 at the age of 30.
