You are bidding on the fourteenth cover of a set of 100 first day covers containing stamps issued in the Marshall Islands commemorating the 50th anniversaries of the 100 most significant events starting with the invasion of Poland and ending up with the end of World War II on VJ day, September 2, 1945. This fourteenth cover depicts the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain on September 15, 1940. Huge formations of German planes attacked London. This day was chosen as Battle of Britain day. Massive attacks on London by huge formations of German planes. Bombing not very accurate because of the determined and highly spirited defence put up by RAF fighters. This day was chosen as Battle of Britain Day. The cover is double cancelled and the red cancellation is from Majuro proper on September 15, 1990, 50 years after the battle. The cover bears four different 45 cent Battle of Britain 1940 stamps. The cover also contains a 5 cent Marshall Islands precancel. The cover is signed by Sailass Andrike, Director of Post for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The creator of the cover is also a member of the American Philatelic Society.
