Description: WWI "Gased" Gas Attack 1918 Training Photograph, Antique, US Army Signal Corps This photograph is attributed to Maj. Tracy Everts of the US Army Signal Corps and was staged to train soldiers about gas mask use and the risks of Phosgene gas. I've seen two slightly different shots taken along the same sequence of action, and this one is the farther along shot than the other because you can compare the positions of the running men. This one is on thick heavier bond old paper, and it appears to have been highlighted by hand to bring out some details. Looking at the "GASED" (spelled as-is) with a magnifier it appears to not be written on top of the picture, it is part of the picture similar to the old photograph identifiers. Photo dark shades have a silver tint to them when rotated in the light. Size is about 10 1/2" wide by 6 3/4" tall Written on the reverse side in pencil is "G. E. Hodgetts" or "A. E. Hodgetts". We do not know who that is referring to. A negative of this photograph is on file with the US Library of Congress! United States Army Signal Corp: "The Gas Attack", black-and-white photograph, 1918-1919; RC-8603, LC-USZ62-90494, https://www.loc.gov/resource/cph.3b36844/. A unique item for those who appreciate the history of WWI and denounce the horrors of chemical warfare! There are some smaller field-of-view later prints and even old postcards of this image on the market, but this is larger and a definite eye-catcher and conversation piece. We purchased this item framed with three other WWI era paper items (an 89th Division booklet and two pages of WWI Chicago War Postals, which are not included in this listing). We removed the items from the frame and have decided to list them separately. PT01
