The earliest bayonets had maker markings on the spine of the blade, but this stopped shortly after production started so they are scarce. Most of them have markings on the blade, but this one has worn off. Wooden grips were produced around 1905 and a second type of crosspiece was introduced in 1912 with a wide muzzle ring that extends over the grip. The third type was introduced with a shortened quillon around WWI. This one has wood grips, extended muzzle ring and short quillon. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have scrapes, light oxidation and are in the white. The quillon has been shortened. The two (2x) rivets securely fasten the wood grip panels. They have oxidized. The grip panels handling marks, compressions and light draglines. The wood has darkened with age. The spine, fullers and sides have light scrapes, but no unusual wear. The blade edge has no nicks or dings. It appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The finish is in the white with some light scattered discoloration. The left side guard is marked with the serial number "91253". This scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The metal frog loop is securely fastened to the body. The mouth, body and finial have scattered oxidation and scrapes. Some of the original finish still remains and has turned a darker patina color. The scabbard has NO visible markings.
