Description: Very rare Hungarian Air Force Dirk model 1932. № 575 ."Kozák Antal Budapest". Pilot's ceremonial dagger The ceremonial dagger was introduced for officers (generals) and non-commissioned officers of the Aviation Administration, and later, the independent Hungarian Air Force. Photographs from that time indicate that the dirk was also worn by Air Force cadets.1 A government decree of June 7, 1940 allowed the wearing of a black fabric belt and pendant, as well as a pilot's dirk, for cadets of the Miklós Horthy Flight Academy.2 An accurate and detailed description of the ceremonial dagger is contained in the regulations on military uniforms published in 1930, under the title “Description of the military uniform of a pilot,” therefore, the dagger was probably introduced into use this year. The earliest photograph I could find is from May 21, 1932, showing a ceremonial dagger being worn. The photograph was taken at Matthiasföld Airport, as György Endres and Gyula Bittai were seeing off, before departing, as it later turned out, on their last flight to Rome.3 The photograph shows another knight György Rákosi, the leader of the Aviation Administration, wearing a side weapon (dagger).4 Several manufacturers made daggers. In the Hungarian Wings, for example, an advertisement by Lajos Meyszáros was repeatedly published, in which he offered a ceremonial dagger (and belt) for officers, cadets and non-commissioned officers.5 During the fifteen years during which the dagger was produced, a large number of different versions, more or less different from each other. On some daggers there are workshop marks (for example: “M?sz?ros”, “Koz?k”, “Bp”, etc.), but most were produced without them. The parts of some specimens had a serial number, but this is also not a common occurrence. The blade is chrome-plated, smooth, has the manufacturer's mark and number 575, such daggers were given to officers until they bought their own. The dagger fits into the sheath perfectly tightly. The only drawback is that the handle has traces of repair, the crack may have been glued, I will show everything as honestly as possible on mine photographs. The item is 100 percent original, these are not fakes that everyone is selling. Remnants of silver paint are visible from the inside of the handle; this is a flight crew dagger.Good luck to the smart new buyer. It is a genuine article.
