Description: Issued starting in mid-1942, the M-1941 pack system replaced the inefficient M-1928 Haversack, and consisted of the haversack (upper pack), knapsack (lower pack) and pack suspenders. The haversack was intended to carry rations, poncho and clothes. The exterior has loops and grommet tabs for attaching a bayonet, shovel, bedroll, extra canteen and first-aid pouch, plus straps for securing a "horseshoe" bedroll. The set also comes with a set of pristine P1941 (O-ring) Suspenders that are correctly attached to the haversack. This haversack was made by the Marine Corps quartermaster depot. While packs manufactured by the company Boyt had rounded metal tabs and a black ink stamp on the inside of the flap (e.g., "USMC", "Boyt", and year of manufacture), depot-made packs have the square metal tabs seen in the photos and were stamped with the markings "DPQ" followed by the fiscal year date, which, in the case of this late-war pack, would probably be 1944-1945. These markings, however, were stamped with a purple ink that faded very easily, which explains why this pack has no markings left. So, this pack is indeed a genuine WW2 USMC-issue item, and a somewhat rarer one, too, as depot-made 4th-pattern packs are harder to find than Boyt-made ones. A fine and rare addition to a USMC 782 Gear Collection!
