Description: WW2 USAAF Rare Original 819th Bomb Squadron 30th BG “Bat Outta Hell” A-2 Jacket Patch. This patch was originally sewn over another USAAF Patch, the CBI Air Service Command Patch a common occurrence during the war since many savvy pilots and crew obtained their A-2 Jackets Stateside or kept their old unit jackets after being advised that flight jackets would be in short supply, if not impossible to obtain, once they arrived at their units in theater overseas. Look closely at the picture to see where the “Bat Outta Hell” patch was sewn over the original. The pictures form an integral part of the description. Please ask any questions before bidding. The 819th was one of the rare USAAF Bomb Squadrons that fought in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. They flew Their B-24s on anti- submarine duty in the Atlantic until the Navy took over that responsibility. They were reassigned to the Pacific where they participated in the pre Invasion Bombing of Iwo Jima. This is a rare original much sought after USAAF Squadron Patch. It is well worn and has been removed from a flight jacket. Technically , flight jackets were unit property , although it was difficult to prevent them from “flying away.” The 819th was disbanded in the Summer of 1945, when the heavy bombing functions were taken over by B-29 Squadrons. So it is probable some aviator removed his patch from his flight jacket Before turning it in to Supply and heading home. Free Domestic Shipping for Domestic Buyer or to EBay Global Shipping Center.
