Description: This turned up in a recent estate and is unfortunately not ID'd, but does have initials in the coat and a number in the trousers. Coat is a standard officers in very good condition with no mothing. 2 years of overseas stripes attached to the cuff, 7th Division combat patch and 6th Corps current patch. In the pocket I found the WW2 era Major's insignia and custom ribbon bar showing 3 WWI campaigns, American Campaign, and Pacific Campaign with 2 stars. I would suspect this fellow served in a different unit during WWI as the 7th only received 2 campaign bars for WWI. It looks like the 7th Division was activated in 1937 Minnesota (where the coat was found) so the officer probably was in then and from here. He probably saw the beginning of the Pacific war (Kiska/Attu etc) and then was sent home mid war because of his age. I'm not sure how the 6th Corps ties in as that was an ETO unit and he doesn't have an ETO ribbon bar. Perhaps he was transferred to that unit before they shipped over and then retired? Coat is in fine shape and shows sign of collar and shoulder insignia having once been attached. Tailor's label inside pocket has size 38R, the initials ML, and a union made tag as well (typical of pre-WW2 mfg). Inside right sleeve has a shadow of a round patch removed through lining, I found a single red thread still there so he probably moved the 7th to his right shoulder at some point once he went to the 6th Corps. No other markings and no significant mothing or staining (though there are a few small moth spots most notably on the right cuff above the braid). Lower front pockets are missing their buttons. On the back there are two metal belt hooks attached, leather reinforced. Typical of what would be seen pre war being used by a mounted officer wearing a sam browne with sword. There is a cloth belt with the uniform, so when the Army transitioned away from leather belts he probably used this - it is slightly mismatched in color. Shoulder to shoulder 18"Pit to pit. 20"Outside sleeve to cuff. 23" Pants are of the mounted style, with doeskin reinforced padding to the thighs. As opposed to leg ties this pair has zippers (talon marked) which is a nice touch. There is a neat period repaired spot at the left pocket, and a small moth nip near the right as seen numerous other small moth spots, largest on the seat area but nothing larger than a matchhead. The rear pocket button is missing. Waist measurement 14" (28")Inseam 25"
