Description: This is a rare 1930's to 1940s possible prewar Asahi Shimbun rising sun flag. It was used for Japanese gliders and was sponsored by the Ashai Shimbun company. The organization sponsored the Kamikaze Mitsubishi KI-15 Karigane aircraft. Roughly 36x28 rounded up. Terrific condition given age, with some general wear and tear throughout. Tassels are intact. Some stains as well, please see photos for additional details. It really shows its age especially in person. Cotton fabric and has been well kept. Reach out with any questions you may have. Thanks! Extremely vibrant when displayed. More info given by a collector Greetings - this flag is likely one that was produced by the Asahi. If you do a Google search for the newspaper and its symbol, several sites will pop up. The company sponsored an international flight between Japan and England in 1937 and the aircraft (named Kamikaze) had this symbol applied to the airplanes wings. The rayed sun symbol is an old one of course, which the newspaper has used in its promo material.
