WW1 Cameron Highlanders Military Walking Stick Cane Johnathan Howell Silver Top

Description: WW1 Cameron Highlanders Military Walking Stick / Drill Cane - Johnathan Howell Silver (Hallmarked JH). With sincere regret, I offer for sale this fabulous WW1 Cameron Highlnders Walking Stick / Drill Cane. It's one of my favourite possessions but needs must and all that, so it's time for it to find a new home. I have taken some detailed images from which you should be able to do your own research but here is what I can tell you. I'll be happy to be corrected on any part, indeed I'll be delighted to learn more or clarify any of the history relating to its life. I'm no expert, so I'm just going to outline some of the obvious points. Anything else would be suppositon or guesswork and I'm not inclined to mislead or misinform. The hallmarks show the makers mark JH which is Johnathan Howell, a prominent military stick maker from 1895/6, so I would say that the original date of manufacture would be the later years of the 19th Century, possible early 20th Century? The top is silver I believe, and there are two pieces of engraving. The first, is on the top of the handle and shows the regimental crest of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders with the Sphynx beneath and EGYPT below that. The crest is somewhat faded from use but there is no doubting the regiment. The second piece of engraving is an enscription that relates to its owner at the time and reads Sgt Fred Lloyd - April 1st 1918. I'm afraid I don't know if Sgt Lloyd had the cane engraved himself or if it was presented to him by his regiment, his friends, his subordinates or a senior officer? I don't intend to go into the service record of Sergeant Lloyd, nor the distinguished history of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, I'll leave that pleasure to the new owner. The shaft is, in my very amateur opinion, malacca but again I'll be happy to be corrected. Overall length is 34 3/4" or a shade over 88cms. Weight is a little under 200g. It's a lovely thing and a must for any collector of Johnathan Howell canes, military canes or WW1 Regimental memorabilia, particularly those who collect Scottish related militaria. Please have a good zoom in on the images for full details of style and condition and drop me a message if you have any questions. Delivery is by a signed service. Thank you for looking.
