The first combat on Bougainville was in M-3 Stuart light tanks. After Bougainville they changed to M-4 Shermans. I skimmed the book and he was wounded during the Guam Campaign. The unit was in LST's off the beach of Iwo Jima when the ship is hit by a kamikaze. Several crewmen and Marines were killed and the bow of the LST damaged. They could not unload and had to wait a few days for repairs before they could hit the beach. The author says he scanned the fighting with binoculars and was able to watch the Mt Surabachi Flag raising. After the ear he gets into US politics and goes to Washington DC.
