Description: This auction if for a Special Japan Edition of the World's Masterpieces of Modern Painting that was presented during the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, IL. Edited by Chevalier John Sartain The large book cover once held 25 sections of black and white photogravures and illustrations of famous artwork from around the world. The images are very nice exact representations of the original artworks. The cover is separated from the 25 sections and sections 1-14 are wrapped in plastic as shown in the pictures. The edges of the pages are tattered but it doesn't affect the images or illustrations at all. While the images are delicate they are still manageable and could be matted and framed, which was my intention when I purchased the set. See the lists of Photogravures Mezzotints and Etchings & lists of Half-Tone Copper Plate Illustrations for Volumes 1 & 2. I will wrap the whole book in plastic before wrapping it in bubble wrap for shipping. The cover is deteriorating so there will likely be crumbs found within the plastic wrapping. I'll take precautions to keep it from getting into sections 15 - 25. These are very nice pieces of art for any collector.
