Description: Rare piece of artwork drawn by noted wood fire sculpture artist Chuck Hindes (born 1942). This piece was created for the First Annual International Association of Wood Fire Artists Conference in 1999 titled “Different Stokes”. Information on back states Dan Anderson’s Anagama Edwardsville. Drawing by Chuck Hindes. Seems to be a fairly rare and one of a kind piece by Hindes. Might benefit from a newer frame but as is, displays well. Frame has wear as shown. Solid overall. Piece is matted. Not examined outside of frame. Frame is 24 7/8” x 19 5/8” with Work 18 3/4” x 13.5”. Will be packed well for safe delivery. “Charles Hindes received a B.F.A. from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and an M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, R.I. He has taught beginning, intermediate, advanced, and graduate ceramics and has been a visiting artist at Penland School of Crafts, Penland, N.C., and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Detroit, Mich. He also has conducted workshops and lectured throughout the United States and Canada. He has received National Endowment for the Arts grants from the Archie Bray Foundation as well as the Craftsman's Fellowship. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections. His work is in hand-built functional and sculptural wood-fired ceramics. Signature forms include tea bowls, teapots, and vases. The importance of gesture and asymmetry is clearly present in Hines' creations. Surface techniques include incising and paddled textures.
