Description: part of our "American dolls" celebration .... American Artist series This beautiful and very hard to find, large early, (1916-1920) 18" long model, circa 1916-1920, fine quality, heavy sturdy composition, spring-strung, Raleigh jointed child toddler doll as shown on page 297, "Sixteenth Blue Book"-Foulke.* is by Jessie McCutcheon Raleigh, Chicago, Ill. and distributed by Butler Bros. and possibly a few other stores. She has deeply molded and painted features with distinctive, SLEEP blue eyes with lots of nice detail and molded eyelids, open/closed mouth with two painted upper teeth, beautiful straight, dark brown, human hair, labeled France (replaced wig) and nice complexion. She has heavy composition arms and legs with chubby, distinctive hands and feet, a solid torso, arms and slant hips. And she wears an adorable, 1930s era, cotton dress with double collar and matching brimmed hat. She has no stains or odors and is from a smoke free home. Raleigh dolls are really works of art that were designed under the direction of Mrs. Raleigh by students of the Chicago Art Institute in sizes ranging from 11" - 18" as well as some larger dolls with cloth bodies (We have a great selection including many of these versions as shown in group photos.) This sweetheart is in generally very good condition with no finger or toe damage, no repairs with some areas of light paint wear, paint chips & crazing around the eye sockets, which are normal and do not detract (some paint touch up as shown). Other Raleigh dolls including his larger twin sisters, and very rare, sleep-eyes twin, all by Jessie McCutcheon Raleigh, (UFDC exhibited) shown and Steiff puppy dog are not included and will be listed separately.
