The caricature of the man is under glass. Glass is no longer covering the caricature of the lady. Neither of the sitters is identified. Wolo is the pseudonym of Baron Wolff Erhardt Anton George Trutzschler von Falkenstein. He was born in Germany, immigrated to the United States in 1922 and relocated to Los Angeles in 1927 where he established a gallery on Olvera Street. To earn a living, he spent part of his time as a street caricaturist. One of his clients was Edgar Bergen, who paid Wolo $5 to draw a strange looking hayseed, later the basis for Bergen?s dummy Mortimer Snerd. Wolo also wrote and illustrated numerous children?s books.
