Description: This is an attractive, uncommon cover sent from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., to Nassau, Bahamas, around October 2, 1870s/1880s! In addition to the 3-Cent, U.S. definitive, the mail required an additional 4-Cents(in blue pencil) to be paid upon arrival there in The Bahamas. The sender, a W.J.P. Ingraham, an importer of carpets, mats, mattings, wool, etc., was writing a female relative of his, likely a daughter. To continue, outside of some shorter perfs at its top, left corner, the green, 3-Cent, "Washington," is in pretty good condition. The, "3-horizontal bar," cancel on the stamp is something I can't recall having seen before! The red, transit CDS from the NYC P.O.is pretty good. Lastly, as for the slightly reduced envelope, itself, it's in pretty good condition. There are some minor stains on either side. The left side is rather jagged due to how it was originally opened. There are small tears at the top and bottom corners at the left side. The back flap is about 95% intact. Noted imperfections aside, this remains a nifty, rare piece of U.S. and Bahamian postal history!
