Book has plate and signature of David Atwood (1815 - 1889). Atwood was congressman for Wisconsin, but also a publisher, editor and printer. He was United States assessor for four years. He was editor and publisher of the Wisconsin Journal for 42 years. He was mayor of Madison Wisconsin from 1868 - 1869, the year this book was published. There is a variety of interesting material in this volume. One chapter: "Influence of Climate on Man." Some info on Native Americans and the mound builders. The spine is fair to good with gilt lettering readable. The biggest defect with this book is the front cover - has some wrinkling and discoloration. The interior is very good condition overall. No interior markings, staining or foxing. No torn or bent pages. No library markings. Binding is cracking some inside front cover - otherwise sound. All text clean and clear.
