Description: Winnipeg, Manitoba - CANADA - Canadian Pacific Railway Depot: The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), also known formerly as CP Rail (reporting mark CP) between 1968 and 1996, is a historic Canadian Class I railroad incorporated in 1881. The railroad is owned by Canadian Pacific Railway Limited, which began operations as legal owner in a corporate restructuring in 2001. Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, it owns approximately 20,000 kilometers (12,500 mi) of track all across Canada and into the United States, stretching from Montreal to Vancouver, and as far north as Edmonton. Its rail network also serves Minneapolis-St. Paul, Milwaukee, Detroit, Chicago, and New York City in the United States. The Winnipeg Canadian Pacific Railway Station, built in 1904-05, is a four-storey steel, brick and stone structure on the northern edge of downtown Winnipeg. The building, an early Canadian example of the Beaux-Arts Classical style designed by the prominent Montreal partnership of Edward and W.S. Maxwell, was intended to create a solid impression and sense of occasion for the thousands of travelers who passed through its bustling confines in the early twentieth century, including waves of immigrants seeking to establish new lives in the West. Passenger traffic ceased in 1978 and the building was closed a decade later. Subsequently restored, it is now the Aboriginal Centre of Winnipeg. This Divided Back Era (1907-15) is in good condition, but there is some edge wear. W. J. Clubb. Winnipeg & Victoria No. 237792.
