Hugh Eric Allan Johnson, awarded the Order Of The British Enpire (OBE) was born 10 March 1939, in London. He began writing about wine in 1960 and quickly rose to preeminence as the is considered the world's best-selling wine writer.[ A wine he tasted in 1964, a 1540 Steinwein from the German vineyard Würzburger Stein, is considered one of the oldest to have ever been tasted..He is also a keen gardener, who has written books and columns on gardening for many years. This is so rare as to appear. perhaps, to be one of a kind. There are many retail HBs with DJ's of the 1972 7th printing on eBay. Most show serious DJ wear and prices vary. There's not another copy like mine. Ditto the other major book (and everything else) site, I scanned Google-listed rare book sites and couldn't find a single match. It's possible that the gift giver had a brand new copy of the book rebound to create this copy, which seems likely but not provable. In any case, it's a remarkably lovely book for a serious wine connoisseur's library. (I acquired it at the estate sale of an elderly German-American couple. She was a longtime German teacher with a remarkably extensive library of mostly German-language books, some geared for kids, most geared for college-level students. I have no idea if her hubby actually had a military background.
