Made by Windfield Designs in Glens Falls, NY. Signed H. Musser 1989. A very nice collectible bank from Windfield Designs. The early saltbox features a long sloping rear roof without windows, a center chimney. The bank measures 6” L x 5.5" W x 6.5”H. Money slot is on the top and access is on the bottom. Windfield Designs, Inc. of Glens Falls, NY, made wooden, silk-screened reproductions of 18th and 19th century buildings, usually for use as coin banks. When they started, they only hand produced and painted four styles of buildings. In 1979, artist and Adirondack Community College professor, Henry C. Musser took his love of architecture and his skill for painting, and began handcrafting small coin bank houses based on 18th and 19th century buildings. In 1981, Musser and former stockbroker, Larry Attanasio formed Windfield Designs, Inc. to streamline production, and increase sales. And increase they did— going from 300 hand painted houses in 1980 to nearly 9,000 screen-printed houses in 1983. This collection contains replicas of historic buildings in Glens Falls and surrounding area. While the company shut down in 1996, the phrase "Windfield Design" is now used to describe a certain folk art style of coin bank.
