WILLIAM A. PAINE SIGNED 1878 • Before Paine & Webber • To Clarence W. Barron

Description: INCREDIBLY RARE! Generations have grown up hearing about Paine, Webber & Co. and later just PaineWebber. After all, Paine & Webber was started 142 years ago by William A. (W.A.) Paine and Wallace G. Webber way back in 1881. This handwritten and signed postal card from William A. (W.A) Paine to Clarence W. Barron was written on October 12, 1878 – 3 years BEFORE he started Paine & Webber while working as a bank teller at Blackstone National Bank in Boston. It’s hard enough to find anything handwritten and signed from W.A. Paine, but to find something that was signed prior to 1881 while he was working as a bank teller is nearly impossible. FYI: 1923 copper stock certificates with W.A. Paine’s signature (42 years after he started Paine & Webber) are selling for $1500 on eBay. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MAKE AN OFFER ON ANY OF MY AUCTIONS. _____________________________________________________________________________ In May 1881, William Alfred (W.A.) Paine (with a loan from his father) and Wallace G. Webber founded Paine & Webber as a brokerage firm in Boston with a seat on the Boston Stock Exchange. With the admission of Charles H. Paine to the partnership, the firm was renamed Paine, Webber & Co. The firm would purchase a seat on the New York Stock Exchange in 1890.Controlled by the Paine family, Paine, Webber & Co. entered the investment banking business in the 1920s. After nearly fifty years at the head of the company, W.A. Paine died right before the Wall Street stock market crash._____________________________________________________________________________ I personally guarantee this to be 100% authentic, as are the hundreds of other items I’m currently auctioning from Clarence W. Barron’s estate. Watch for my future auctions. There are some amazing, one-of-a-kind items coming soon. Everything being auctioned was personally owned by C. W. Barron with Authenticity Guaranteed 100%. I have been selling on Ebay since 1999 with 100% positive feedback. • Please See My Other Auctions •
