Description: * * * RARE! RARE! RARE! * * * THE WILL DAY HISTORICAL COLLECTION OF CINEMATOGRAPH & MOVING PICTURE EQUIPMENT.By Wilfred Ernest Lytton Day This was originally an auction catalog for the Will Day Collection, auctioned in London, circa 1930.Originally this catalog was issued with soft covers.Note: At some point, a previous owner, had the catalog re-binded in hard illustrated boards, with the original titled soft cover trimmed down and affixed to the front hardboard cover. Signed by current owner on Last Endpaper, along the spine fold: Kevin John Charbeneau and dated, 8/8/1987. Book is Illustrated with photographs on slick pages. 81 pages (including end pages). This book has binders tape on the spine, probably from the time of rebinding from soft cover to make it hardcover. Notes: There is small wear and tear typical of a book this age. Pages are tight, and binding is tight. There is some bumps and wear to spine, but not separation. Scuffs and bumps along lower edge of covers and corners, again typical with use, and age. On the pages there is minor foxing to some pages. Does not overall affect this rare book. Original auction catalog seems to have been three-holed punch and held by brads (?). ~~~~~Will Day was born in 1873, and died at 63 years of age, on July 16, 1936. The author/collector of the items within this catalog was a British collector, historian, showman, inventor, and dealer of film equipment. He was also the author of "25,000 YEARS TO TRAP A SHADOW," a monograph, that was never printed, though it was advertised in this auction catalog. This monograph is slated to be printed, forthcoming, by La Cinémathéque Fraçaise, but no date has been slated. ~~~~~This was an auction catalog to sell the collection of WILL DAY. His collection was eventually purchased after his death, by La Cinémathéque Fraçaise. It was evidently considered for purchase by others including the British Film Institute, but the others failed to act in a timely manner. NOTE: It is unknown how many of these auction catalogs were published/printed in 1930 (but given that it was at the height of the depression) estimates seem to suggest 75-maybe 100 copies. As to how many actual copies are still in existence is again subject to educated guesses. However, according to a noted film historian, scholar/author Stephen Bottomore the following is known: Copies do exist and are held at the BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE, the BRITISH LIBRARY, National Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh), the VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM in London (has two copies), the Whipple Museum of the History of Science (Cambridge University, UK), Stephen Bottomore, with three others in private collections (which includes this copy for sale here). The above accounts for ten (10) known copies, with the possibility of others existing in unknown private collections, but there is nothing to support this, as of this writing. ~~~~~ PLEASE SEE PHOTOS! ~~~~~ This is a very RARE, and seldom, seen publication.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~PLEASE NOTE: These Books/Magazines are sold AS IS. And are sold one collector to another. No Rights are given or implied.NO RETURNS for whatever reason. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Postage and Handling: All items are shipped in bubble wrap or cardboard, and/or secure packaging. I do not make up prices. Postage like everything else has risen in costs over the years. Also, please note, I try to get my packages out on a timely basis, and provide tracking so you can follow it's progress. Unfortunately, I have found since the pandemic that services sometimes take longer, so if your package(s) are delayed please do not hold me accountable if said items do not reach you in time for a gift (birthday, Santa Day, anniversary, et cetera) once the item(s) are with the carrier I can do nothing except wait, just like you. All my packages are shipped in the USA via PRIORITY MAIL with Insurance included. If the bid price goes higher then additional insurance is added to the winning bid. I can mail multiples of the same item (books or photos, posters, slides, but added items may increase the weight adding to postage costs, and will add to the Insurance total. Tracking and Insurance WILL BE ADDED, so be aware sometimes insurance is an additional cost, I WILL NOT SHIP without Insurance, if you want the book you pay INSURANCE, as I have had too many instances where books did not arrive, arrived late, or were damaged/lost. Also, I ship my item(s) on a timely basis however once the item(s) have left my hands it is up to the Postal Service. And, I've noticed since the pandemic that postal delivery times take longer, so do not complain to me if your item is not received in time for a special event, holiday, anniversary, birthday or Santa Day. NOTES (regarding insurance): I will combine like items. Single or multiple items that fall under $100.00 US, are covered in standard PRIORITY MAIL boxes. Anything over $100.00 is computed using the USPS calculator to figure the total costs of insurance. This will be noted on the INVOICE as 'charge'. And, I will detail same in my Invoice email to you from the eBay site. To avoid hassles, Do Not Pay for Your Item(s) Until I send you an Invoice. If you pay, and proper Insurance is not added you will receive another invoice with the additional charges to cover the Insurance, No If ands or Buts! *** I do not ship any item without insurance protection.*** All my packages are shipped with Tracking. NOTICE: IF YOU WANT MEDIA MAIL let me know by message, so that I can compute INSURANCE before I send you THE INVOICE. I am offering these items in my auctions or But It Now options for others to collect, cherish and enjoy as I have. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Thanks for reading and looking at my auctions. Enjoy! NOTE: This item will NOT be combined with any other auction items. This item will be packaged and shipped separately with Insurance and Tracking. BUYER PAYS INSURANCE. If Buyer does a BUY IT NOW, transaction, you WILL get a second invoice for the INSURANCE, as there is no way to add insurance into the B.I.N. selection choice.
