Description: Cabinet card photograph of a young woman identified as "Miss Julia Wilhite" on the reverse. Julia Wilhite was born 7 August 1864 in Kentucky, daughter of George Jackson Wilhite (abt 1820 - after 1880) and Rebecca Erwin (1828 - 1916). Other spellings found of the surname are Wilhoite and Wilhoyte. The 1850 census finds George J. (age 28), a blacksmith, and Rebecca Wilhoite (age 21) in Owen, Kentucky with their children Mary (age 3) and James (age 1). Other children of the couple include Joel (born abt 1851), Nancy J. (abt 1855), Betsy Ann (abt 1860) and Julia, pictured here (1864). Julia's mother, Rebecca, was the daughter of Kennedy Erwin of Virginia and Dolly Bonnifield of Kentucky. Julia's father was born in Kentucky and his parents were from Virginia. The Wilhite family moved to Vincennes, Knox, Indiana where Jackson continued his blacksmith trade until his death. Daughter Julia never married and passed away 8 May 1930 in Indianapolis. She was interred in Fairview Cemetery in Vincennes where her parents also rest.Julia's photo measures 4.25 x 6.5 inches and comes from the Townsley & Presnell photo studio in Vincennes, Indiana. It was found near Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is in good condition for its age, but as to be expected with a photo over 100 years old, it isn't perfect. There is some corner rubbing, yellowing and spots, along with a small pinhole in the top center edge. Please see photo scans for details. The "Ancestry Ephemera" watermark you see will not appear in the original photograph you will receive. Please write should you have any questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability.
