Description: eBay’s AI DescriptionThis exquisite commemorative goblet from Whitefriars is a true masterpiece. Crafted in 1972, it features a beautiful bucket bowl with a tear drop in an Inverted Baluster Stem, and a conical foot. The goblet is signed and numbered by William Wilson, adding to its value and authenticity. The goblet is a perfect addition to any collection of British Royalty memorabilia. It was manufactured in England using hand blown glass technique and diamond point engraving. This vintage goblet is a must-have for any history buff or collector. My comment On a trip to England in 1992, I was lucky enough to chance upon a set of these spectacular glasses for sale at the Grays Antique Market in London. We bought all 6 of these very special glasses! They are special because they commemorate the Silver Wedding anniversary of Elizabeth and Prince Willian in 1972. {We were celebrating our 25th anniversary in1992.}Each of the goblets is signed and numbered on the base, by William Wilson.Wiliam Wilson joined Whitefriars in 1928, at age 14, as a porter at the Wigmore Street showroom in London. In 1933 he was appointed “Domestic Glass Designer”, later to become “Chief Designer” from 1950 to 1972.It would appear that these goblets were some of his last work AND TO BE CHERISHED BY ALL OF WHITEFRIARS FOLLOWERS!He loved his work so much - even to the extent of taking home work at weekends to engrave Coronation Goblets.Wilson was in fact a Self Taught Diamond Point Engraver. These goblets deserve a quality place to stand and be used for their purpose - with as the English would say: “ A good slug of vintage wine” from a quality glass, and what more quality could you ask for? Whitefriars ceased trading in 1980 and their likes will never be seen again! "AND FOR THOSE OF YOU OUT THERE WHO KNOW WHITEFRIARS , THESE WILL MAKE A WONDERFUL WEDDING PRESENT TO CHERISH IN THE COMING YEARS AND AS AN INVESTMENT!" These eight glasses are not “new”; obviously they are 52 years old, but they look new and we have only used two of them on one occasion - to drink to the memory of the Queen and the Prince on September 19, 1922. We have eight glasses to sell, $225 each; $400 for two; $700 for four and $1300 for all eight . [Make an offer. (please)] First bidder gets their choice of numbers:Glass # 44Glass # 46Glass # 408Glass # 1218Glass # 1308Glass # 1309Glass # 1313Glass # 1321 I am NOT selling to raise $$ for my retirement. {That does NOT MEAN I do not know what these things are worth - so please do not insult William Wilson’s memory with lowball offers. At 81 and 88 years old, we need to (a) find respectful homes for the things we have collected, and (b) raise nearly $80,000 a year to provide mortgage support for four breadwinners (1) who used to work for us before we retired, (2) who lost income when covid happened and (3) who are having trouble getting work now.} So, if one or more of these historic glasses strike you as a good investment in personal pleasure, and the appreciation of William Wilson, make a serious bid and help BD, GD, BR & LT keep their homes.
