Description: This listing is for a Wedgwood & Co. LOUISE Soup Bowl. This brown transfer-ware bowl measures 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) across. Dated 1881. The distinct brown transfer-ware pattern features a geometric border with branches with flowers, leaves and berries circling the rim. A bird is taking flight from one branch. A square to one side holds the image of a sail boat. Marked on the reverse with Wedgwood & Co., Louise and the diamond shaped “kite mark” showing the date code used at that time. This date code shows this bowl was produced on April 8th, 1881. The word “IVORY” was pressed into the clay before glazing. In very good preowned condition. There is a small amount of pitting (with discoloration), light surface scratching, some crazing, and glaze wear to the edge. The glaze is still very shiny after 140 years of use. Please view all photos as they are part of the item description and show the actual item you will receive. I took photos on both light and dark backgrounds to help show the true beauty of this item.
