Description: THIS IS A PHOTOCOPY PRINT and NOT A VINTAGE 1964 ITEM. FACTS AND FIGURES ON THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WONDER ROTUNDA THIS IS A SET OF 9 PAGES THE NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR 1964-1965 Length: The "Magic Skyway" Ride is nearly one-half mile long. Ride Time: 12 minutes Cars carrying guests along Walt Disney's "Magic Skyway" ride will move continuously on two parallel tracks, first through transparent tunnels circling the Ford Wonder Rotunda about 25 feet above the ground and in full view of the surrounding Fair grounds. The means of moving these automobiles is a modification of the remarkable "WEDway Transit System," designed by WED Enterprises. Designed by Welton Becket, internationally known architect, and the staff of Welton Becket Associates, Los Angeles, the Ford Rotunda will be the largest exhibit building at the Fair. It will contain almost 290,000 square feet of floor space. The main entrance opens on to a glass-enclosed circular structure 235 feet in diameter surrounded by 64 pylons 100 feet in height. Adjoining this portion will be a flared rectangular show and exhibit building standing seven stories tall, the entire structure is almost as long as three football fields. The Rotunda will contain 3,400 tons of structural and finished steel, enough to erect a 22-story office building 125 feet square. It will also contain 35,000 square feet of clear plate glass; 25,000 square feet of clear plexiglass along exterior walls; 125 miles of electrical wiring; and enough concrete to lay a 4-foot wide, 4-inch deep sidewalk 19 miles long. More than 400 steel pilings, each capable of supporting a 50-ton load, were driven up to 130 feet into the ground to provide a solid base. It will be completed a month before the Fair opens on April 22, 1964. About 25 million persons are expected to visit the Ford exhibit during the two six-month periods of the Fair. To animate the 68 figures in the Ford show, Walt Disney applied the wizardry of "Audio Animatronics*." This system, developed by WED Enterprises is an entirely new medium of three-dimensional animation. By an electronic process, "Audio-Animatronics" produces preprogrammed, synchronized sound and animation for human figures, animals, birds -- and even trees, flowers andother usually inanimate objects.
