Description: Wayne Gretzky's wooden red Titan icehockey stick used in the Helsinki World Championships 1982 A rare piece of hockey history. Legendary Wayne Gretzky's wooden Titan hockey stick used in the 1982 Helsinki World Championships. These World Championships were the only ones in which Gretzky played during his career. Later in his career he switched from the red Titan stick to a white one. Now you have the opportunity to own a piece of hockey history. This hockey stick has owned only one person after Gretzky. Gretzky arrived at the World Championships 1982 after Edmonton was eliminated from the Stanley Cup finals, traveling by private jet with Jari Kurri. I received the stick personally from Gretzky after the match against Finland, which Canada won 9-2. Gretzky assisted on Darryl Sittler's 0-5 goal in the first period. Gretzky topped the tournament's scoring leaderboard with a total of 6 goals and 8 assists, while Canada secured a bronze medal in the tournament. During the World Championships, I worked as a reporter for Finland's second-largest daily newspaper, Uusi Suomi, as well as for Iltalehti, closely following both Finland and Canada. With Jari Kurri's assistance, I managed to arrange a special interview with Gretzky, and later I followed the Edmonton games, including in New York, where those authentic black-and-white photos of Gretzky were taken. In the authentic photos, Gretzky holds the red Titan hockey stick. In July 2024, Sotheby’s auction house sold Gretzky’s wooden Titan white hockey stick, which he used in the 1988 Stanley Cup finals, for $336,000. Gretzky’s red Titan stick was used in games and is in pristine condition.
