The Collection: This comic is from a collection of many hundreds that belonged to a friend of our family who passed away on October 19, 2021. He bought them off the rack as a child in the 1940s and 50s. They stayed carefully tucked away in the same home since that time. The first time they were handled or moved is when they were put into a tub when his house was cleaned out after his death. This was not done by us but was mostly done carefully and only a few appeared to be damaged in the process. The original owner had no spouse or children and no other living family, so many of his things came to us. Included in this collection are many Dell Four Color and Disney titles, including a nearly complete run of Uncle Scrooge and a very long run of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and many Captain Marvel Adventures and Marvel Family comics from the 1950s. Update September 2024: All but a few of the Fawcett Comics have been listed and sold. There are still over 200 Disney comics to list. About Me: I used to be an avid comic collector. I always had a copy of the Overstreet guide and was always on the lookout for comics on my wish list. I even worked in a comic book store for about a year when I was in college. That was a long time ago. I never lost the love of comics, but the space to store a big collection became problematic and I sold my very large collection in the late 1980s. I just never started collecting again. About This Listing: Publisher, series, issue, and title: Dell Publishing Co., WALT DISNEY'S COMICS AND STORIES, October 1944, Vol. 5 No. 1, Issue No. 49 First impression: The cover is detached and is pretty trashed. The interior is okay. Low grade. Degree of gloss: Dull. Condition of cover: Detached. Several large tears. Dirt, subscription crease, pieces missing, spine partially split. I would go through these in detail, but this comic is clearly at the bottom edge of the collectable range. Corners: Only the top right corner is intact. Spine and staples: Cover detached; spine of the cover severely damaged. The staples are placed way too far to the back and about halfway in the margin of the back page. They are discolored and starting to rust. Original staples: Yes Interior staples: Centerfold detached at one staple. Staples are off center and discolored. Paper color and condition: Tan. Supple. Smell: Pastries. Interior condition: Water spots, dirt, dents in the page edges, tears in the last several pages. Complete at least. If I had to give it a grade: 1.0 Fair It's probably worse than 1.0, but maybe not as terrible as 0.5, so I've set the price accordingly. If you want to use this for an art project or something, don't feel guilty. I will probably throw this away if it doesn't sell. The original owner was a poetry professor with a PhD, and he would totally have approved of repurposing this comic for art. I am not a professional comic book grader, but I have done my best to describe and photograph the comic being offered in this listing. Thanks for looking and have a beautiful day.
