The Collection: This comic is from a collection of many hundreds that belonged to a friend of our family who passed away on October 19, 2021. He bought them off the rack as a child in the 1940s and 50s. They stayed carefully tucked away in the same home since that time. The first time they were handled or moved is when they were put into a tub when his house was cleaned out after his death. This was not done by us but was mostly done carefully and only a few appeared to be damaged in the process. The original owner had no spouse or children and no other living family, so many of his things came to us. Included in this collection are many Dell Four Color and Disney titles, including a nearly complete run of Uncle Scrooge and a very long run of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and many Captain Marvel Adventures and Marvel Family comics from the 1950s. Update September 2024: All but a few of the Fawcett Comics have been listed and sold. There are still over 200 Disney comics to list. About Me: I used to be an avid comic collector. I always had a copy of the Overstreet guide and was always on the lookout for comics on my wish list. I even worked in a comic book store for about a year when I was in college. That was a long time ago. I never lost the love of comics, but the space to store a big collection became problematic and I sold my very large collection in the late 1980s. I just never started collecting again. About This Listing: Publisher, series, issue, and title: Dell Publishing Co., WALT DISNEY'S COMICS AND STORIES, January 1945, Vol.5 No. 4, Issue No. 52 First impression: Subscription crease and some reading wear, a tear in the back cover. Spine and staples are pretty good. Still low grade, but not rock bottom. Degree of gloss: Moderate. Condition of cover: Subscription crease. Some general scuffing and minor indents. A little tear and a scratch in the right edge near "STORIES" and next to the price, respectively. A subtle drag mark that proceeds down from Donald's back foot toward the center of the comic about 2 1/2". A doughnut hickey under the "I" in "COMICS" and one in the "D" in "DISNEY'S". A scratch above the same "D". Some wear and creasing along the extreme edges of the comic and occasional small dents and flecks missing. There is a piece torn out from the address section on the back cover. Corners: The top right corner is blunted with very minor scrunching and light creases just visible. The bottom right corner is blunted and has a longer light crease, around 1 1/2". Both the left corners are slightly blunted with some fraying or fibers showing. Spine and staples: The staples are pretty shiny, but the top staple has a couple of tiny rust spots. There is just visible wear around the staples. There is a small amount of spine roll and the staples are also off center toward the back cover. There are numerous spine stresses. Original staples: Yes Interior staples: Fairly well centered, tight, and matte in color. No visible rust. Paper color and condition: Dark off-white with darker edges of cream or even tan in spots. A little stiff but not brittle. Smell: Very sweet, sweet bread dough, cream horns, vanilla. Interior condition: The subscription crease is not highly visible inside, but it makes the book a little floppy in places. There are some very minor dents in the top edge. The corners have light reading wear throughout. There are a few tears in the margin near the middle of the book. There are some folded lower corners in the last few pages and a couple more margin tears. If I had to give it a grade: 4.0 Very Good I am not a professional comic book grader, but I have done my best to describe and photograph the comic being offered in this listing.
