Description: Here are 6 Royal Crown Derby dessert Plates in the Brittany pattern. They are Floral Red and White w/Gold, made in Derby, England in 1972. The plates are smooth and gold rimmed. The condition of them is excellent. Although the set is listed as used, there are no no utensil scrapes, no chips, nicks, or cracks. They are beautiful plates and have a diameter of 6”. HISTORY/MARKS: The Derby Crown Porcelain Company was started in 1876 by William Litherland and Edward Phillips at Osmaston Road in Derby, England. The use of the title, “Royal”, was granted by Queen Victoria in 1890 and the company changed its name to Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Co. Ltd. Geoffrey A. Godden's Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks shows the mark #1271 on the back of this set was used from 1890 with the various years distinguished by year ciphers. The year cipher (XXXV) used on these indicate production in 1972. The pattern was produced from 1960-1997. The company was known for producing good quality tableware, figurines, and decorative goods.
