Extremely Rare Find! Vintage Rolex Bucherer of Switzerland Lucerne Souvenir Decorative 11 Spoons (one spoon is missing) Watch Advertising Collectible Set. A fabulous collectible souvenir spoons. These were given out in the 1950's to the purchaser of a Rolex watch from Bucherer Jewelers in Lucerne, Switzerland, never sold separately. Besides being famous for the Alps and chocolate, Switzerland is world renowned for the famous Rolex watch, and with this lovely little spoon on display you can leave your friends and family wondering…. “When did they get it!?” The spoons feature the names of 11 different cities, all different designs. The top of the spoon features the Rolex crown logo. An amazing find for any Rolex watch collector or souvenir spoon collectors. Also makes a great gift for someone special! Each spoon has a cross on the top of the handle, a different city on the shaft and different patterns on each bowl (see photos). These are great examples and each spoon has the location name on the front handle and embossed in each spoon bowl are the following images which represent each specific place: Lugano. Lakeside and palm tree scene. St Moritz. Flaming sun and face. Lucerne. Tower and lake scene. Interlaken. Alpine mountain scene. Locarno (City), Zermatt. Matterhorn Alp scene. Bern. Bear (City of bears). Geneve (Seascape). Basel. St Gallen (Cathedral). Lausanne. The back of each spoon is stamped with “Bucherer of Switzerland and CB” which is the Bucherer's hallmark. Approx. Measurements: each spoon is 4 1/4" long and 3/4 of an inch wide at widest spot. Condition: This set comes complete (except 1(one) missing spoon, which can be purchased separately, if desired) with a vintage presentation box. NOTE: According to AntiquesQA.blogspot.com, these spoons were given to the purchaser of a Rolex watch by Bucherer Jewelers in Lucerne, Switzerland. Receiving a spoon after they purchased a Rolex. Bucherer was said to never have never sold the spoons separately. Besides its main store in Lucerne, Bucherer has outlets in major luxury hotels in other cities. These hotels often gave guests silverplated Rolex spoons as a welcome gift in the hopes that they would purchase a Rolex to take home. Though Rolex Geneva wholly endorses the marketing effort by Bucherer, the company does not make the spoons. In 1887, as souvenir spoons became the fad in European cities, Victorian women loved using them whenever they had guests. The spoons also served as conversation pieces with after-dinner coffee. They also became badges of travel as Victorians began to travel and attend world expositions. Rolex spoons fall into the advertising category, and displaying such a spoon indicates that the owner, or someone in the home had purchased a Rolex watch – which for some is a status symbol in itself.
