Description: Antique/Vintage Porcelain - Capodimonte Made in Italy in 1933 - Hand Painted Ornate High Relief Very Young Children Harvesting & Planting, Large Dish/Box with Lid - Excellent Condition No Chips, No Cracks, No Breaks! Almost a 100 YEARS OLD! Authentic, vintage, finely hand-painted, high-relief porcelain trinket or dresser box made in Capodimonte, Italy. The lid and box are round-ish, with six lightly curved sides. The figures cavorting across the sides of the box and top of the lid are young children - not cherubs, as is typical of many Capodimonte pieces. The bottom of the box is clearly marked with a "1933" and "Italy" in Gold. Please look at all the Pictures to see how Awesome this box is!Box is 5 1/2" tall with lid in place. Details:Box measures 6 1/4" wide across the top edge x 2 1/2" (interior depth is 1 7/8").Lid measures 6 1/2" wide x 3" tall to top of book-reading child figure/knob. Capodimonte emulated the already established Meissen porcelain, manufactured in Germany. In 1867, Alfonso Majello, who was knighted "Cavaliere del Lavoro," founded the Majello factory, which still produces Capodimonte porcelain. Capodimonte is famous for its molded figurines and its decorative modelled flowers applied to cups and vases. It is one of Italy’s most famous forms of porcelain art and the tradition endures thanks to the creativity of generations of Neapolitan artists.
