Capodimonte emulated the already established Meissen porcelain, manufactured in Germany. In the second half of the 19th century the first Italian handicraft factories were created; all were family-managed. In 1867, Alfonso Majello, who was knighted "Cavaliere del Lavoro," founded the Majello factory, which still produces Capodimonte porcelain. Capodimonte is famous for its molded figurines and its decorative modelled flowers applied to cups and vases. It is one of Italy’s most famous forms of porcelain art and the tradition endures thanks to the creativity of generations of Neapolitan artists. In 2012 the first Capodimonte e-store was founded by Vincenzo Castaldo.
