Description: Vintage original U.S. Marine Corps officer version of the U.S. Army “Ike” jacket, known as a “Vandegrift” jacket, from the estate of a retired U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Colonel (O-5) and 1956 U.S. Naval Academy graduate. These jackets were known as “Vandegrift” jackets, named for U.S. Marine Corps general and later Commandant of the Marine Corps, Alexander Vandegrift. The jacket is size 37R and is olive drab (OD) in color. I believe the jacket is made of wool and appears to be fully lined. The tag on the inside of the jacket reads, “Jos. A. Wilner & Co. Custom Tailors, Washington, D.C.” The tag on the inside of the interior right chest pocket indicates the jacket is from November 19, 1956. A tag with the owner’s initials is sewn above the interior right chest pocket. The vintage wood clothes hanger from Jos. A. Wilner & Co. is included. A very nice example of a vintage U.S. Marine Corps “Vandegrift” jacket! The jacket appears to be in excellent used condition with signs of wear and age, such as some loose, frayed, and/or “knotted” threads, perhaps some minor pilling, perhaps some light discoloration and soiling on the interior lining near the collar (it’s difficult to tell), a small area of discoloration on the upper left sleeve, and two small holes, perhaps from insect damage, on the back of the jacket (please see photos). There appear to be some scratches, scrapes, abrasions, and discoloration and/or loss of finish on the metal buckles on the waist tabs. There also appear to be holes in the fabric on the shoulder loops where rank insignia was pinned (these may be difficult to see in the photos) and holes and/or wear marks on the interior lining above the left chest pocket where ribbons and/or badges may have been pinned (corresponding holes and/or wear marks on the exterior fabric above the left chest pocket don’t seem to be visible).
