Description: Vintage Oil Lamp SHERWOODS LIMITED Ships Brass Binnacle Lantern. These types of lanterns would have been found on the binnacle (a stand found on the deck of a ship that houses important navigational instruments) to help read the magnetic compass and sand timer for speed at night. There is no steel anywhere in it, it is all made of copper and brass so that it would not upset the compass. The round chimney top is adjustable for proper airflow and venting. The front of the lantern easily opens and closes to access the burner on the inside. The lantern has a brass and porcelain burner. The front of the porcelain piece is marked Sherwoods Limited Trademark Sound. The burner and oil pot are complete. Oil pot is removable for ease of filling. Adjusting knob turns to adjust the height of the wick. The lantern measures 10 ½” tall and has a 3 ¼” diameter at its base.Very good overall condition and nice patina. This lantern would make a great addition to any lamp or lighting collection! Perfect for any maritime or nautical memorabilia collection! Check out my feedback and buy with confidence!
