Description: A traditional barrel handle knife from Scandinavia. Stylistically it appears to originate from the Telemark area of Norway. The maker is unknown; however the distinctive and unusual pommel has two sterling silver diamonds which may identify the maker. The handle is made of burled red birch. The blade is triple laminate and blacksmith made. This knife would have been for special occasions and is a rare and unusual example. It dates to the very early 1900s, possibly earlier. The two sterling bands are hand tooled in a diamond pattern. The condition is very good, considering its age. The blade profile is almost original. There is some slight pitting on the blade. There is a natural crack in the burl wood handle. This could be a museum quality piece due to its rarity. The original sheath is missing. 8 7/8" Total Length 4 3/4" Blade Length.
