Description: Vtg Herbert Levine KABUKI Shoes Beth Levine 60’s Leather Intricate Pattern Red Platform Size 4 1/2 These are incredible works of art that may very well have been one of a kind. The gold lining of the shoes is embossed “KABUKI” in oriental motif below in a rectangle is HERBERT LEVINE then below HERBERT LEVINE PATENT PENDING Hand written with pen on the inside of the right shoe A 142 4 1/2 M The leather is just wonderful with a super whimsical cross hatch pattern in black. The motif has pelicans, birds, flowers, eagles, clown, owl, guitar player, and many more fun depictions. Heel to toe about 9″ The platform is about 1 1/2″ There is very little wear. The tips at the toe have some wear however the flat portion of the bottom of the shoe again shows little wear. These were purchased in New York City and we are the original owners. We have a small collection of Kabuki shoes that are listed in our Etsy Shop. This pair of shoes has a fan club of it's own. About Beth Levine: Born in 1914 to a family of farmers on Long Island, Beth Levine was the first successful female shoe designer in a field dominated by men. A true visionary, Levine revolutionized the fashion world with her innovative and iconic designs. Levine's creations became favorites among designers and celebrities, from Halston to Marilyn Monroe, Azzedine Alaia to Cher, as well as four of America's First Ladies. She is credited with many "firsts" such as Spring-O-Later, the topless "No" shoe, stilettos, mules and fashion boots. About Herbert Levine: Beth Levine started out as a shoe model and ended up as head designer at I. Magnin. In 1948 she opened a shoe company with her husband, Herbert Levine. Although the company bore his name, Beth Levine was the creative genius behind the label. Among her creations were stocking shoes. topless shoes that adhered to the foot with adhesive, Spring-o-Later sandals, shoes with rolled leather heels, and “Kabuki” shoes that were inspired by Asian footwear.
