VTG 40s Etching SAN FRANCISCO ROAD TO THE SEA Pencil-Signed LISTED Ruth Melnicoe

Description: Here we have an original vintage etching pencil-titled lower left "Roads to the Sea" and pencil-signed lower right by listed female artist, Ruth C. Melnicoe (1897-1959 American.) Melnicoe was born in Chicago, Illinois, but most of her work is associated with the West Coast, especially the Bay Area, and in particular, with San Francisco. This is a very nice piece of San Francisco history, showing what the area looked like in the late 1930s/early 1940s. (Although this particular piece is undated, all of the other of Melincoe's etchings in our estate collection date between 1939 and 1944.) Unframed. Image alone, not including pencil-signed and other margins, is roughly 4 1/4" x 5 1/8". This piece is remarkably fresh and clean, despite its age, with excellent contrast. Lies nice and flat. Light surface, edge, and corner to the surrounding paper, which may include -- and if included, is shown in the photos -- matting tape remnants, mat burn, toning and/or foxing.
