There are no dings or scratches, just a few tiny marks from use and drawer storage over the years. The polished edge panels still shine brilliantly. Plus, the hinge is in good order with nearly nonexistent play, the case halves line up properly, and the SMG promo looks nice with negligible enamel loss, as pictured. Oddly, the insert bears no inscription but is a ZIPPO original to the lighter. And, based on soot being practically absent in the chimney and snuffer, it is obvious that this lighter received hardly any use before being forgotten-about for decades. It’s exceptionally well-preserved overall. Most importantly, I gave the lighter some minor servicing to get it ready for action. Typical of a lighter that sat unused for many years with a flint inside, the tube was blocked with rock-hard residual flint mortar. I carefully cleared the flint tube with a small screwdriver, then installed a new flint and verified strong spark. Lastly, I gave it a sparse fill of yellow-bottle Ronson lighter fluid and it fired right up. It works very nicely, reliably once again!
