Description: Vintage Super-Wurker ZigZag Attachment Made in Germany! Includes 9 page Instruction Leaflet in English! Why is it called a Super-Wurker?Because this ingenious all-in-one ZigZag Attachment offers exciting versatility on a vintage straight stitch sewing machine. With the Super-Wurker a Seamster can create zigzag stitches, decorative cording, ornamental stitches, utility stitches, overcast edges, stitch a shell edge, pin tucks, buttonholes, join lace, join fabric edges, and apply a very clever stitch utilizing the adjustable edge stitcher foot, designed to provide a base for you to crochet a lace edge!~~~Bonus included! My Supplemental Color Commentary! Copyright My Two Threads 2024~~~ Beautiful all steel precision engineering manufactured when quality was valued and appreciated. Though manufactured by Wurker and marketed for the vintage Pfaff Sewing Machine owner.... ...This Super-Wurker ZigZag Attachment is compatible with low shank side attaching vintage straight stitch sewing machines such as Singer models 15, 27, 28, 66, 99, 101, 127, 128, 185, 201, 222 and includes the Featherweight 221.Wurker manufactured these quality steel zigzag attachments for owners of numerous sewing machines such as Pfaff, Singer and others. The set is complete with the original Wurker Zigzagger Attachment, hex key to adjust the mount, the slotted adjustable edge guide foot (with unique feature which lets you stitch a base for a crochet edge), cording foot, buttonhole foot (with bound buttonhole feature), attaching screw, original Pfaff box and a color replica of the very hard to find 9 page instruction pamphlet in ENGLISH! I was captivated for weeks getting to know this beautifully designed and complex all steel vintage zigzag mini-machine, stitching samples for illustrations, taking pictures and developing a commentary. Your Super-Wurker ZigZag Attachment is so unique! And SO well made! I had a lot of fun discovering how your Super-Wurker ZigZagger operated and getting to know some of the fun built in features! As usual, I have a LOT to tell and show you! Get comfy, put your feet up and read on.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Archive photos are used to illustrate and demonstrate this type of unique automatic zigzag attachment using my Singer 201 and my Featherweight 221 sewing machines.Important NOTE: Before stitching, the first thing you will do is fit the Super-Wurker ZigZag Attachment to your sewing machine using the adjustable mount and the hex key. If you have only one compatible vintage sewing machine (see models above), this fit/adjustment is performed only once. If you have more than one suitable sewing machine, you may need to re-fit the Super-Wurker ZigZag Attachment to the other machines. Your Super-Wurker ZigZag Attachment will arrive with the slotted edge stitcher foot in place and the attachment will be set to its most narrow zigzag stitch (called BIGHT). In order to stitch correctly, the edge stitcher foot must rest evenly on the throat plate when the presser bar is lowered. That is, it cannot be tilted down on one side placing uneven pressure on the feed dogs of the sewing machine. This can cause "crabbing" making your stitches curve off to one side as you sew and it doesn't do any good for your feed dogs. AND the sewing machine needle must clear the opening of the edge stitcher foot and enter the throat plate needle hole without interference. (Pssst! I really liked this notch in each foot which allows the top thread to be pulled under and to the back)! ~~~The following is an overview of the vintage Wurker ZigZag Attachment. The instructions, which are included, provide more details to get the best this fantastic zigzag attachment offers! So! This is How to Fit the Wurker ZigZag Attachment to your vintage straight needle low shank sewing machine.~~~Loosen the mount by inserting the hex key and turning it counter clock wise towards the back of the attachment. Now the mount can rotate right or left... And slide forward and back (and all the way out, too).NOTE: The mount will NOT adjust higher for high shank sewing machine or for a slant needle sewing machine. To Attach the Super-Wurker ZigZag Attachment.~~~After lifting the sewing machine presser bar lever, hold the Wurker ZigZag Attachment tilted to the right in your left hand and bring it in from behind your machine. Place the fork of the attachment driving arm over the needle clamp. Fasten the attachment to the presser bar with the presser bar thumb screw. Included is a new presser bar thumb screw which is a little longer and has a screw head. Use a screwdriver to secure the attachment firmly. Lower the presser bar lever.Once the adjustable edge stitcher foot sits flat on the throat plate and the machine needle clears the needle hole in the throat plate, tighten the mount using the hex key by turning it clock wise towards the front of the attachment. Raise the presser bar and check that the attachment is securely attached and that the edge stitcher foot will not move. ~~~The Straight Stitch, The Ornamental Stitch and The ZigZag Stitch.~~~By altering the positions of the pawls in relation to the ratchet wheel, differing stitch designs are produced. There are two pawls. An inner pawl (blue X and arrow) and an outer pawl (red X and arrow. The picture below demonstrates both pawls engaged with the ratchet wheel for ornamental stitching. The picture below demonstrates the inner pawl only engaged with the ratchet wheel for ZigZag stitching. ~~~The pawls are adjusted by gently pulling the little metal handles out (red arrows), positioning the lug (red X) in the hole of the inner pawl, releasing the handles and engaging the inner pawl with the ratchet wheel for ZigZag stitching... The lug (red arrow below). The inner pawl engaged with the ratchet wheel for zigzag stitching. Or pulling the little handles out, positioning the lug below the lower edge of the inner pawl, releasing the handles and engaging both pawls with the ratchet wheel for ornamental stitching. Ornamental stitching can be mirror imaged (the stitches shifted to the left or right)... By lifting the presser bar lever, turning this little center screw of the ratchet wheel clockwise with a screwdriver until the pawl moves from this starting position (red arrow) to the 2nd large notch (blue arrow).(You will find a very good illustration and explanation of this adjustment in the instructions included with your Wurker ZigZag Attachment).Simply...The pawl moves from this notch (red arrow) ...To this notch (blue arrow)...~~~With the two pawls raised from the ratchet wheel, the attachment will produce a straight stitch without having to remove the Wurker ZigZag Attachment from your sewing machine. ~~~Changing the Feet.~~~The 3 removable feet are held in place with a steel pin. Pinch the larger end of the pin on the right side of the attachment and pull it all the way out releasing the foot. Insert the selected foot, replace the pin until the smaller end clicks securely into the sturdy tension wire on the left side of the attachment. ~~~Changing the Bight (Width of the ZigZag Stitch).~~~Change the width of the zigzag stitch... By sliding the round notched disc with your thumb and forefinger back for narrow stitches and forward for wide stitches. Notice the deeper V shaped notch in the round disc? Setting this V notch in one of two positions allows the seamster a full range of stitch bight (narrow to wide) or a uniformly stitched buttonhole welt and bar tack (the welt is the long row of satin stitches on either side of the buttonhole opening and the bar tack is the short cluster of stitches at the ends of the buttonhole). Positioning the V notch a little to the left allows the disc to clear the metal corner stop (lower red arrow). Positioning the V notch pointing straight up between the two metal stops controls the bight for stitching uniform widths when stitching the welts or bar tacks of buttonholes. For buttonholes, the bight is limited between these two metal stops (red arrows). ~~~The Buttonhole Foot.~~~The Wurker ZigZag Attachment does not require a feed dog cover plate when using the buttonhole stitching feature. The buttonhole foot has a cording guide for strengthening a buttonhole with a thicker thread if needed (stitching a bound buttonhole). The stitch length is adjusted using the stitch regulator on your sewing machine. A fine short stitch length is desirable for buttonholes. The cutting space of the buttonhole can be made wider or narrower by loosening the two screws. Adjust the fork, which holds the buttonhole foot, to the left for wider and to the right for narrower cutting space and tighten the two screws. ~~~The Cording Foot~~~Thread small braid, gimp, satin rat tail, embroidery wool or crochet cotton through the front hole of the cording foot. The cording channel beneath the foot will help hold the cord in place as you either straight stitch down the center of the cord, zigzag over the cord or use the ornamental stitch to secure your design. Applying cord or other trims can really dress up and personalize a sewing project! ~~~The Adjustable Edge Stitcher Foot(like no other)!~~~Loosening this screw (red arrow) allows you to adjust the slotted edge stitcher to the left or the right. This feature let's you position the needle's stitch deeper into the fabric edge or more shallow and close to the fabric edge.~Moving the edge stitcher to the right positions the needle to the left. Moving the edge stitcher to the left positions the needle to the right. Being able to adjust the edge stitcher makes a big difference to the width of pin tucks (also known as air tucks). Being able to adjust the edge stitcher to the left or right can also make sewing lace and fabric edges much easier! And being able to center the straight stitch. About that "like no other"This clever little addition to the adjustable edge stitcher foot is a dinky cording guide that moves to the left or the right to stay correctly positioned to the sewing machine needle. The hole has a smaller diameter compared to the hole in the cording foot. It will accommodate tiny satin rat tail, crochet cotton, embroidery floss and other cords such as tiny gimp. This method of threading the cording guide comes in handy!Cut a 4-5 inch piece of sewing cotton and thread the ends through the tiny guide hole. Run the cord through the sewing cotton loop and pull the sewing cotton "lasso" through the guide. The cord will follow. Position the Wurker ZigZag Attachment pawls for ornamental stitching. Place the folded edge of the fabric in the left slot of the adjustable edge stitcher foot. Do you crochet? Here is the base you can use to add a lovely crocheted edge! There you have it!Like my comments? They are included!
