Description: ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is an attractive vintage Weiss green rhinestone leaf brooch. There are two different green colored rhinestones; emerald marquis and light green round rhinestones. The finish is bright gold and is intact, other than some wear to a couple of edges of the brooch. To the left of the brooch are yellow enameled swags that are lined and look as if they are a deeper darker gold. There are a few spots on the edges where this enamel is missing. The fold over catch is in good working order. Measurements: See photos for measurements in inches and centimeters. Condition: Overall, this brooch is in very good condition for its vintage age. A little about……WEISSOriginally an employee at both Coro and the Grad and Schrager Jewelry House, Albert Weiss discovered he had a great talent for designing jewelry. In 1942, Weiss founded his own jewelry company in New York. Weiss maintained relevance through innovative design. Weiss was among one of the first designers to use Swarovski crystals in jewelry. Known its use of black lacquer called “Jappaning” and use of polychromatic (bold and vivid) colors, Weiss continued to wow for many decades. In the 1940’s many pieces featured smokey colored rhinestones called “black diamonds” , in the 1950’s Weiss jewelry sported large rhinestones with elaborate designs and the pioneering use of the “Aurora Borealis” finish on crystals. In the 1960’s Weiss jewelry was more understated than the previous decade but continued to maintain high quality and also introduced white enameling in the late 1960’s early 1970’s and closed in 1971.
