Description: VINTAGE U. S. ARMY AND NAVY UNION MEMBERSHIP BADGE & RIBBON This listing is for a vintage, United States Army & Navy Union member medal/badge and ribbon. (The Army and Navy Union was formed without restriction to service within a particular war. In 1886 it became a National Organization which was permanent for all veterans, to “promote loyalty to the country, assemble comrades in order to perpetuate a spirit of fraternity, present social affairs, and befriend ex-servicemen and woman who might need help in securing employment, in caring for the sick and in burying their dead.”) The top bar pin is blank and has a working pin clasp on the back (no maker’s mark). Attached is a multi-colored striped grosgrain ribbon (red, maroon bands with center thin white stripe, center white band, dark red bands with center thin yellow stripe, and a dark blue border band). Suspended from the ribbon is a small eagle with open wings atop a 6 petal medallion. In the center is A&NU interlocking initials surrounded by a laurel wreath. Each petal features symbols (castle, crossed swords, anchor, crossed rifles, eagle/globe/anchor, crossed cannons). The back is blank, and the piece measures approx. 3-1/2" long.
